Some technology is built in a lab. The best technology is shaped in the field.

Over the last two days, TerraSense had the privilege of supporting a rhino welfare operation at a South African reserve, thanks to an invitation from Rhino911.

The first day was spent listening, learning and gaining a deeper understanding of the realities of conservation. Time alongside the veterinary team, pilots, reserve staff and conservationists gave us a genuine appreciation of the planning, teamwork and care behind every mission, and the challenges faced by those protecting wildlife every day.

On day two, it was time to put those lessons into practice.

Using our Pivot devices and the TerraField app, we deployed an offline network connecting the helicopter, field vehicles and ground teams. In just three hours, the network was deployed across 5,000 hectares, teams were trained, and it was supporting a live conservation operation. Throughout multiple rhino procedures, teams were able to share locations, coordinate movements and maintain real-time situational awareness, even where conventional connectivity wasn't available.

For us, this wasn't about proving technology.

It was about learning how offline connectivity can better support the people who dedicate their lives to protecting wildlife, helping teams stay connected, informed and coordinated when every moment matters.

These two days were inspiring, but they were also a reminder of the harsh realities faced by those on the front line. Alongside the successful procedures, we came face to face with the devastating reality of poaching. It's a sobering reminder of why this work matters, and why the people protecting these incredible animals deserve every support we can give them.

We're incredibly grateful to Rhino911, the veterinary team, pilots, reserve staff and everyone involved for welcoming us, sharing your knowledge and trusting us to play a small part in the work you do every day.

This is only the beginning.

Every deployment teaches us something new. Every partnership helps us improve. Every lesson comes from the people working in the field. We'll keep listening, keep learning, keep adapting and keep improving, because the best conservation technology is shaped alongside the people who rely on it, where it matters most.

Greater insight. Less impact.
